Our Response to COVID-19

Amid the risk of contracting COVID-19, and with the guidance of the University of Arizona, the Native Nations Institute has taken precautions to reduce the impact and spread of infection and will work remotely for the foreseeable future.

In the face of recent challenges, NNI is committed to working and communicating with our partners to plan important educational opportunities and training for tribes and communities in the future. We also are considering other virtual delivery options. Our online tools are available to access 24/7.

The safety of our staff, partners and event attendees is our priority and we have taken steps to ensure participants can still take advantage of our resources. Here are some updates on upcoming events.

We will continue to share our webinars and virtual conference engagements. Updates will be communicated regularly to participants as these events develop. Please follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Operations will continue as normal, and communication with NNI is most effective via email. Our tribal services team is taking inquiries and is available to meet virtually with our partners for future events and to discuss upcoming opportunities. Our research team continues their work in Indigenous data sovereignty, food sovereignty, tribal code development, and other governance topics.

We are encouraged by Indian Country’s response to the crisis. Native peoples always have been resilient, and we anticipate that they will continue to use their sovereignty to make community-based decisions that protect their nations’, citizens’ and community’s well-being.

From all of us at NNI, please stay healthy and safe!
