The Native Nations Institute's Indigenous Governance Program Manager Torivio Fodder (Taos Pueblo, Cherokee) sat down with regular January in Tucson Instructor and 2025 Emerging Leaders Seminar presenter Del Laverdure (Crow Nation) in early 2024 to talk about some of the most pressing issues facing leaders in Indian Country today. Topics covered include inter-Tribal cooperation, membership and enrollment, the federal budget as it applies to support for Native nations, Tribal leadership during the COVID pandemic, and more.
Laverdure was appointed by President Obama and served 3.5 years at the Department of the Interior as Acting Assistant Secretary, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs in Washington, D.C. He is also a founding partner of the Arrow Creek Law Firm in Billings, Montana and previously served as the Chief Legal Counsel for the Executive Branch of the Crow Nation.
