Native Women in Governance Speaker Series: Perspectives on Leadership
Each year the Indigenous Governance Program hosts the annual January in Tucson (JIT) event. Founded in 2012, JIT provides indigenous leaders, students, tribal professionals, and others working with indigenous nations around the world with access to cutting-edge research tools on indigenous governance and rights. The goal of the program is to enable participants to gain practical skills and knowledge that they can use in their home communities.
This year, in conjunction with #JIT2019, IGP is excited to present the “Native Women in Governance Speaker Series: Perspectives on Leadership.” Each week during JIT, IGP will host a distinguished American Indian women leader to share insights from her experiences working in Native governance. Invited speakers will deliver a noon-hour lecture, and will be invited to discuss their leadership roles and responsibilities in working with Native Nations.
The speaker series will feature Shannon Keller O’Loughlin, Executive Director, Association on American Indian Affairs; Diane Enos, Councilwoman, and former President, Salt River Pima - Maricopa Indian Community; and Herminia “Minnie” Frias, Councilwoman, and former Chairwoman, Pascua Yaqui Tribe.
The University of Arizona’s Commission on the Status of Women generously funded the speaker series, and will be hosted at the James E. Rogers College of Law. For more information, please contact us.
