Eldena Bear Don’t Walk

Eldena Bear Don’t Walk is a citizen of the Crow Nation and a descendant of the Salish and Mitchif people. She is the Chief Justice of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT) Appellate Court, and Chief Justice for the Chippewa Cree Tribe. Bear Don’t Walk serves as an associate appellate justice for the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska and the Gun Lake Tribe in Michigan. She is the Attorney Judge for the Ft. Peck Tribes, as they become one of five tribes extending jurisdiction as part of the Violence Against Women Act. She was the first woman ever to serve as Chief Justice of the Crow Nation.

Bear Don’t Walk graduated from the University of Montana with a Juris Doctorate (JD) and a Masters in Public Administration (MPA). She completed a Masters of Law (LLM) focusing on Indigenous People’s Law and Policy from the University of Arizona. She owns a small private practice on the Flathead Indian Reservation.
