Adam A. Fernandez
Adam Fernandez is a first generation Chicano student from Walnut, California. He graduated from Northern Arizona University (NAU) in 2017 with a Bachelors in Biomedical Sciences while also receiving a minor in Anthropology. During his final year at NAU Adam joined the Partnership for Native American Cancer Prevention(NACP) research cohort to begin exploring the field of Public Health under the mentorship of Dr. Julie Baldwin. Their work explored various agencies for best practices and care in alleviating public health disparities; specifically amongst Indigenous peoples and those residing in Northern Arizona.
After graduating Adam participated in the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Consortium at The University of Arizona. The program increased his experience in research by working with the Arnold Lab in the School of Plant Sciences. After completing his program Adam returned to California to become an EMT, pursuing another interest in medicine. His experiences in the medical field have included working on ambulances, at music festivals, MD shadowing and medical liason for his rugby club; a future in Healthcare and Healthcare systems motivate his current interests.
Adam’s role as a Research Technician is funded by the Post-baccalaureate Research Education Program at the University of Arizona. Through his program he aspires to continue working in the field of Public Health under the mentorship of Dr. Carroll.
