In a first-time collaboration, the Native Nations Institute’s Indigenous Governance Program and the Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research have partnered to offer portions of NNI’s January in Tucson (JIT) Indigenous governance education curriculum at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Jumbunna’s Indigenous Nation Building International Workshop Series, also known as “October in Sydney,” will convene from October 19 – November 4, 2018.

Six of our regular JIT faculty will facilitate the sessions, including Drs. Miriam Jorgensen, Stephanie Carroll Rainie (Ahtna Athabascan) and Stephen Cornell and Executive Director Joan Timeche (Hopi) from NNI; Jaime Pinkham (Nez Perce), Executive Director of the Columbia River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission; and Prof. Daryle Rigney (Ngarrindjeri) from Flinders University. Long-time JIT advocate Dr. Alison Vivian from UTS and JIT 2016 participant Dean Jarrett (Gumbaynggirr) will also facilitate tribal self-governance workshops.

October in Sydney is designed to help Indigenous participants and their allies consider the practical applications of research and policy analysis that point to the importance of Indigenous nation rebuilding.
