Native Nations Institute (NNI) welcomes Elijah Bia (Navajo Nation) to the family. Elijah is a freshman at the University of Arizona studying Journalism with a focus on digital applications. As the Student Media Assistant, he will learn firsthand how digital media, especially now during the coronavirus era, is helping to build capacity and create interconnectedness for Indigenous nations and people worldwide. Currently, he is working with Media Specialist Jason Aragón edit videos and add interviews to the NNI Soundcloud channel. NNI's Indigenous Governance Database is an archive like none other, with over a 1,500 video and audio recordings; our online resources offer expertise from a wealth of tribal leaders, as well as research on topics like constitutional reform, effective tribal governance, and data sovereignty.
In his free time, Elijah is a photographer and filmmaker who enjoys learning new skills via YouTube. Bia shared, "I hope everyone who is home on the reservation is staying safe and that my family is following the guidelines set by Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez."
